The marae is the heart of a hapū. If a marae supports and encourages healthy habits, hapū members are more likely to follow. Many whānau don’t have access to the support they need to improve their health and the health of their hapū. Hapū Hauora will ensure whānau and marae have access to the support and information to be (and stay) healthy!
Māori have a greater risk of developing illnesses (such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer) than other population groups in New Zealand. The good news is, it doesn't need to be this way!
Through consultation with hapū, five specific lifestyle changes have been identified as areas that can make the biggest impact to whānau health. These are:

eating healthy

being smokefree

avoiding infections
-
reducing alcohol consumption
-
being active.
By making these simple changes, your whānau and hapū can live healthier, happier lives.
